Recently, Adam Yauch (MCA) of the Beastie Boys and Maurice Sendak, author of “Where the Wild Things Are” both passed away in quick succession. Both of these men had a huge influence on me. MCA and the Beastie Boys were the soundtrack of my early 20s. His chief contribution to the group, in my opinion, came from his conversion to Buddhism which gave his rhymes a level of spirituality and universal positive regard that helped me see through some of my “young man angst”, and allowed me to access what was great about being alive. Maurice Sendak’s art and perception of childhood as a place of scary things that can be tamed was a great boon to an anxious child like I was. I’ll miss them both, and in their honour I created this illustration, which shows MCA, in his role as Nathan Wind from the “Sabotage” video on a wild rumpus with Carol, one of Sendak’s wild things.

Also, a new drawing of OG shock rocker Alice Cooper. In the sequential art gallery, I have added the lettered pages from Face the Music, my collaboration with Houstonian writer and bonne vivante Meredith Nudo. Enjoy, and let me know you were here!
